Each artwork I create is another suspended Black breath within the United States of America. A pendulum swing midflight between revealing and concealing the epistemology informing my person.

If different realities emerge when the canon's gaze shifts, what happens when its gaze is averted? Facial recognition technology seizes the person's likeness as data. My practice-as-research investigates portraiture to understand how this moment defies its inherited conventions.

I create mixed-media portraits to prioritize revelation over representation. To be Black and be recognized is one permutation from being weaponized. Materials archive stories over time. My practice is a dialogue between material, memory, and my Black experience.
